That one day I stumbled upon a wedding in the park ...

I had just finished a family shoot at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma. I noticed a few people getting out of their cars and gathering around some beautiful trees.  These are the situations I get myself into sometimes; introducing myself to perfect strangers, and asking if I can capture what is about to take place. I would have to say that these are some of my absolute favorite occurrences; with photography and in life. The rush of adrenaline as I approach, not knowing what I'm going to say or if I'm making a big mistake.

Something about taking the risk to meet new people, getting to know someone knew in a short period time to the depth that that encounter allows, and using the talents I enjoy so much to capture emotion and tell their story. I think I smiled the entire rest of the day, and the next, and the next.

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the babies and the beautiful family!

I love this family for so many reasons! I love them for how they represent to me what it looks like to love each other in a marriage! To work through the joys and pains and learn to love each other more as you journey together! I love how they love and support their sweet daughters and are willing to learn as they go what each sweet one needs to be who God made them each to be! I had so much fun spending a morning with them playing in the woods!

Summer evenings in the PNW

I can almost feel the life flowing into my soul as I breathe in the evening sunset with my family.  We have had a very busy last 8 months, filled with deadlines, tests, moving, and transitions. But when we've carved out time to soak up bits of summer together it has made up for the business. I'm learning to rest, enjoy, and be present. I'm not always the best at these things, but by God's grace I'm learning! And what I've learned so far is changing and reviving me in the deep places of who I am.

This is a fitting week to post about my husband! After years of school, experience, and testing, he can finally call himself a licensed Architect. I'm excited to see how he builds upon this and is able to incorporate his other passions into the weave of what he does for work and who he is as a person. I love this photo of him, because it is classic John. He is often dreaming about something; looking into the distance to sort out what he just saw, and how it connects to the here and now. He keeps me on my toes, and I have come to love and appreciate the way he thinks and looks at the world a little different than my linear brain. I love working on a team with him, whether it's design, songwriting, or shooting a wedding, it's fun to be creative with him and encourage each other!

So here's to my architect/ photographer/ designer/ songwriter/ father/ husband/ farmer/ creative/ dreamer  -  may God help you fit it all together and walk in all He's planned for you. May you feel the freedom to be yourself and enjoy who you are.

Malibu, there is no place like you

My family had the pleasure of visiting one of the most beautiful places on earth last week. It is a place dear to my heart, where I have been allowed space to breathe, to rest, and to connect. To connect with my family, dear friends, God, and even myself. It was quite a shock to enter back into the realities of life Monday. I am praying I can take with me a slice of the goodness of this sweet trip, and that God would remind me He is closer than I think and cares about many of the things on my heart this week, more than I probably understand or know.
